Foundations & Purpose
In August 2023, Shalini made a deliberate decision to step away from a full-time role in a large organisation to support professionals and leaders in a more meaningful, and grounded way.
This transition came at a time of profound change, both personally and globally. As organisations navigated post-pandemic uncertainty, restructuring, and burnout, Shalini was also moving through deep personal grief after the loss of her mother, while leading a major project amid organisational upheaval. It was during this period that she witnessed, firsthand, how emotional strain, lack of support, and unprepared leadership affected individuals and teams.

Having completed her coaching certification and spent years working in emotional intelligence, Shalini recognised a deeper issue beneath operational challenges: an emotional crisis. Leaders were expected to perform, decide, and guide, often without the emotional tools to do so sustainably.

Alongside her work with people, Shalini had long been involved in orangutan conservation through advocacy and fundraising. Over time, these seemingly separate commitments converged into a single realisation: leadership, wellbeing, and sustainability are deeply interconnected.
Ficus & Liana was born from this understanding. The consultancy exists to develop emotionally intelligent leadership that strengthens people, teams, and organisations, while also contributing to a more sustainable and compassionate future.
Shalini works with leaders, professionals, and organisations who want to lead with clarity, empathy, and intention, creating impact that extends beyond performance to people and the world they inhabit.
